History
The band in its first incarnation began in Northcote in late 1999 and was known as HellMaggot. Two years of performing on the live circuit in Melbourne culminated in launching the demo EP D.I.E. (see Discography) at The Tote in front of several hundred people with The Wolves, The Berserker and Stiff Meat. One show later the band split up.
The Ninth Path was then created. Initially it was to be a studio project only in order to release the better HellMaggot songs and new material.
The Ninth Path went to St Andrew's recording studio in Melbourne in 2003 as a three piece (Dave, Jordan & Steve) to record the debut opus Awakening (see Discography) with guest performers, including members of Resistica and Obsidian.
After the album was completed, Josh (bass guitar - Spider Goat Canyon) and then Owain (vox - Cage of Serenity) offered to join the band - offers which could not be lightly dismissed - thus cementing a new live line-up of uncompromised brutality.
Recently the band has been performing preparatory shows prior to the long awaited launch of Awakening as well as working on new material for the second album.

Nomenclature & Ideology
'The Ninth Path' essentially means forging your own destiny. It is in reference to writings by the late Hunter S. Thompson. Perceived connections to any other meanings are coincidental.
As such the writings of the band and its invidual members are just that - individual. It does not subscribe to any established political, religious, ideological or other movements. If it is a war we are fighting, it is a war against herd behaviour and mediocrity.
